40 Early Rough Trade Singles

The Slits | In The Beginning There Was Rhythm

The increasingly corporate, irritatingly ad-riddled, but at the end of the day still very useful All Music Guide has published a cool annotated list of 40 singles from the first few years of Rough Trade. Nice to see some of the label's lesser known acts getting a mention. How many do you own?

I knew a small handful and mostly only by fame not because i had heard them, but my partner who was reading over my shoulder seemed to know quite a few. He has always had much more time for finding new things than i have. We'll have to chase them down now, could be fun and time consuming!

I just bought the Robert Wyatt single of "Strange Fruit" except Strange Fruit ain't there- both sides have the b-side "At Last I'm Free"-- a rarity or were all copies like this?

Mine's like that as well, so it can't be too rare... but I hardly think they were all like that, just a certain number of mispressings.
